Book Review The Last Lecture

It tells of his story of his lecture about realizing your childhood dreams. He knew it would be his last lecture, and not only was it for himself, but for his young children whom he wanted to pass on his last bits of wisdom. The book was an extension of the lecture, and contrary to what it could be, the book was not depressing or sad.

The book, co-authored by Jeffrey Zaslow a Wall Street Journal reporter and Carnegie Mellon alum who attended the lecture and first wrote a column about it, recounts the lessons Pausch shared. The Last Lecture is an enchanting and optimistic memoir that tells the story of a man who truly loved life and learned to embrace it.

In September 2007, the speaker, 47-year-old computer science professor and father of three, Randy Pausch, didn’t have to imagine that he was confronting his imminent demise because, in fact, he was. Pausch had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and, at the time of his Last Lecture, had only been given three to six months to live.
